Optometry at Level 2
The recent period has been challenging for optometry practices, as it has been for our wonderful customers. In our last update we spoke about the difference between essential vs non-essential eye care and how you could access optometry services during the Level 4 lockdown period.
While we are currently at Level 2 NZ may soon be shifting to Level 1. We thought we’d fill you in on what we’re doing to keep everyone safe and meet the regulations and public health requirements in place around health services, so we can ensure your optometry visits over the period are the best they can be.
Eye health is essential and we are committed to ensuring those with eye diseases, or anyone seeking an optometrist Palmerston North wide, for everything from contact lenses to eye exams, can do so as safely as possible.
When it comes to minimising risk, effective hygiene and sanitation is essential. When seeing an optometrist, NZ generally has great standards in place and this is always a top priority for us at Visique Eye Spy ( remove this- and all those who practice optometry NZ wide). We are maintaining our usual vigilance to ensure a clean environment for our staff and clients. This includes frequent disinfection of equipment, infection control training for all staff and installation of protective shields on slit lamps to avoid droplet transmission of COVID-19.
To be safe, we have also had to postpone or cancel micro-aerosol generating procedures, such as non-contact tonometry and operations under general anaesthesia. Nasal endoscopy is also being avoided due to the potential it has to provoke sneezing”
Our staff have been educated on all necessary procedures and are making all essential provisions, including the use of masks when appropriate, personal protective equipment and hand hygiene with disinfection before and after each client. Measures to maintain the recommended social distancing guidelines have also been applied. We have followed the public health measures outlined by the Ministry of Health and government with health and safety being essential to operations. We have a strict triaging process in place, asking those who have COVID-19 symptoms or who have been in contact with someone who has had COVID in the past 14 days to stay home and defer their appointments. Staff who are unwell are also being asked to stay home, with daily self-contact tracing of staff members being implemented
We also have strict contact tracing records of all those who have appointments with us. We’ve also made the best of alternative ways of working, with some staff working from home over the duration of the lockdown when providing online consultations. These control measures have been essential at the current alert level and especially at Level 3 and 4. As you can see, we keep our finger on the pulse with current COVID updates. With all of this in place, you can rest assured we are taking every precaution necessary to ensure your visit is a safe and enjoyable one.
